Life can be difficult, unpredictable, incredibly challenging and overwhelming at times. Therapy can assist with reestablishing and developing skills and resources to better manage and cope with stressful times. I would like to help you to realize your personal goals through open communication and the establishment of a respectful therapeutic relationship. I strive to work with individuals to take full advantage of their own internal coping strategies towards achieving balance and improved quality of life.

Since 2002, I have dedicated my work to the field of mental health and have provided therapeutic interventions in relation to grief, loss and bereavement, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma/PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, first episode psychosis, and forensic social work. I have worked in various settings including hospital, out-patient clinic, in-home, and community-based settings. I provide psycho-educational support and supportive counselling to promote psychosocial and emotional reconnection, and improved quality of life for adolescents, adults and their families who are facing life’s challenges. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Somatic Interventions.

Grief and Loss
Grief therapy is used to better understand, cope and process many differing and sometimes confusing emotions often experienced following the death of a family member or friend, such as sadness, anger, guilt, and apathy. Therapy can assist in navigating the uncertainty about your future that can arise when faced with life changes that can unfold over time, following death and loss, including changes in lifestyle, roles, identity, and relationships.

Anxiety
Intense feelings of nervousness, worry, and fear can begin to impact your day-to-day functioning, leading to issues in both social and work environments. Therapy can be beneficial to assist you to better understand and address negative thought patterns that disrupt your ability to be present in your life.

Low mood, sadness or loss of interest in your life can lead to intense feelings of loneliness and isolation. Therapy can assist you to identify underlying concerns and help you to develop healthy coping strategies so that you can access your strengths and better manage symptoms and move closer to the having the life you wish to have.

Understanding Psychosis
If you, a family member, or a friend have been diagnosed with a mental illness including schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and are struggling with experiences related to psychosis, paranoia, mood changes, or distrust, therapy can assist to better understand symptoms in the context of the diagnosis, and help to develop healthy coping strategies to improve quality of life.

FAQ.

What is therapy?
Therapy, also referred to as “talk therapy”, or counselling is the collaborative process of meeting with a therapist to explore distressing feelings and emotions in a supportive, non-judgemental, and safe space.

What is the length and frequency of sessions?
Typically, sessions are 50-minutes in length. Frequency of sessions are based on client’s needs and determined collaboratively during the initial consultation.

Is what we discuss in therapy confidential?
Your privacy and confidentiality are incredibly important. Your information will not be shared with others without your explicit written consent. Although, there are limits to confidentiality when therapists are legally obligated to report with or without your consent. The limits to confidentiality will be fully discussed with you during your first session.

Is therapy covered by OHIP?
Unfortunately, social work services are not covered by OHIP, however, most extended health benefits offer coverage for social work services. Payment for service is due at the end of each session by e-transfer. You will be provided with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, if applicable.

Do you offer in-person sessions?
At this time, most sessions will be held virtually, or if whether permits, the option to “walk and talk” can be arranged. In-person sessions can also be arranged, if preferred.

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and Talk Therapy provides a unique opportunity to combine the healing aspects of nature, physical activity and psychotherapy all into one! Walk and Talk Therapy is great for those who want to be physically active while also gaining benefits from talk therapy at the same time.

Being outdoors has inherent safety risks, such as from a sunburn, insects, traffic, or other injury. Clients will take full responsibility for their medical and physical well-being during each Walk and Talk session.

Services & Fees.

How much does therapy cost?
I offer a free 15-minute consultation to ensure we are a good fit.

A 50-minute social work therapy session is $165.00. A 75-minute session is $225.

Payment must be made by e-transfer at the end of session, unless otherwise agreed upon. Rates may increase periodically due to inflation and increased cost of living.

Services provided outside of regularly scheduled appointments such as letter or report writing, preparation of records, or extended phone consultations are prorated (e.g., $82.50 will be charged for a 30-minute task).
